Elephant Sculpture in Spelter
France 1930s
Details
A majestic illustration of an elephant raising high his trunk. The sculpture is made in the style of “Irénée Rochard” (1906-1984). It’s not signed but this representation is well-known as one of her prefered. The facial features and the muscles are worked out in great detail. The original green patina gives the decorative object its historic charm. A very known material in the Art Deco is “Régule” (spelter), it is used for this beautiful elephant, too. Both tusks are not made of ivory. They are in Regule, just ivory-colored! This beautiful pachyderm is standing on an oval base in black marble.
